I'm Another Statistic

There have been alot of changes in my life in the last 6 months. One of them is that I have found myself blogging less and less because it requires me to stay inside on the computer (I don't have a laptop) when I really want to be out in the sun, walking on the beach or riding my motorcycle on unfamiliar roads.

I moved to Santa Cruz, CA and have a new job which I really love. Until today..... I was laid off as well as a few others. The company is small and so it was a big impact on the number of people still employed there. The downtrodden economy has affected orders for our equipment, so it was necessary to downsize, for now. If orders do pick up in the near future I am assured that they will call me back to work. For now, I am another statistic.

I don't know what the future holds for me. Today, I want to continue living in Santa Cruz and see if there is another job out there for me locally. I did take a quick look at Craigslist and was amazed at the scarcity of job postings, compared to 5 months ago when I was actively looking.

I apologize in advance if I don't post as frequently as in the past. On the other hand, I guess I will have alot of free time on my hands for a while. Sounds like alot of daytime rides in the near future. This unemployed business might not be so bad after all.......

Sorry about the bad news, but something makes me feel that things are about to turn around. I really believe the economy is cyclical, and that we've touched bottom and are on the way back up. I hope you'll either get called back or find something else, and be able to stay in Santa Cruz.

Since I'm out of work too, I just wish I was out there to ride with you until you do...

Sorry to hear about your job. I missed two months of work (Nov. & Dec. '08)before finding a new job. The good news was that for the midwest the weather was mild and I spent a lot of time riding. Hard to be upbeat with friends and family all the time though...
Good luck!

Don’t forget, you’ve got Brothers and Sisters just up the road. Please don’t hesitate to call if you need something. We ain’t got much, but we still take care of our own.

Becky, welcome to the club! I was let go 2 weeks ago too. It's not fun to be "laid off" from a job because your self-worth goes in the pooper, but it's not really a reflection on you personally. That's what you have to remember.

I've decided to take the summer off and enjoy myself. Whatever you decide to do I wish you the best!

Hope you find employment soon. I think the economy is poised for an upswing. Being in the Automotive industry, I really hope so.

I'm so sorry to hear that Becky. I will keep my ears open and let you know if I hear of anything up in your area, or even down here. Like I told you I will be out of town this weekend, but let's try to get together next weekend.

Don't have anything useful or helpful to say that hasn't already been said. Just wanted you to know that I care, as does everyone else. I'll send whatever positive Karma your way that I can.

I think the upswing is comiing soon too! Hope you don't have to wait too long to find employment. The blog will be here waiting, you are more important. Take advantage of the spare time to ride. Hope that eases the pain.

HI,

I am not a biker, but generally I hate to see people get taken advantage of, even if they happen to be different from me.

Florida requires all motorcycle license plates be displayed horizontally. The fine for mounting license plates vertically has now been changed to $1100. This seems to be to take advantage of biker visitors from states that have no such law.

This is something people should be aware of
